I love sunsets and sunrises because that's the most dramatic lighting of the day usually. And of course, I love the ocean. Who doesn't. It is mezmerizing with it's endless waves and tides rolling in. The sound of the ocean alone seems to stop all thoughts of stress and pressure and seems to soothe even the most worrisome soul. With a lot of moisture in the air, the colors are sometime prismatic. I loved how the colors in the sky are complemented by the cool aqua colors in the ocean waves. ~ Enjoy!

The sun has just risen and broken through the clouds on this Hawaii seascape. The colors were so beautiful in the sky and in contrast to the ocean. It just reminded me of God's never ending creation process of  each new day. Each new day is a day to look forward to with joy and hope. I love beautiful sunsets and sunrises because these are usually the times of the day with the most dramatic lighting. As we all grow up and grow older, our lives get busier and more complicated. More demands are made on us and life can become stressful and uncomfortable. It's times like these, that we think back to a time when we felt at ease.... at peace, happy... and loved just for who we are. Maybe it's a place. Maybe it's a person or a set of circumstances that is home to our souls. That our hearts yearn to be back in. If only in our minds eye, we sometimes need to get back on that country road and let it take us "home". To a simpler way of life. Where there was much joy and laughter. There's a richness of beauty there to behold. The country and western song from which this title was taken goes, “Country Road.... Take Me Home, to a Place I belong....”

I painted this painting in February. I must have had Valentine's Day on my mind. A day in which we celebrate our love for another. Love has so many different levels and moods. Rich deep thoughtful ones and others light, airy, happy, playful ones. I tried to capture a variety of moods and feelings in the different areas of the foliage and trunks. I hope the viewer can see and feel these too. The painting reminded me of another song, "Love is in the Air" was the theme song for the television series "The Love Boat". ~ Enjoy!

Again... another panaramic views of wide open spaces. With a beautiful sunset and at the lake. What a way to start a morning. I can only imagine the sounds those two fishermen are hearing right now. A gentle rippling of the water. A fish break the water now and then. The woodland areas coming alive with the morning. Birds, frogs... a gentle breeze in the trees. Watching the sun through the morning fog still hazing across the water. I love to wach the effects of light in atmospheric conditions. Mercy!!! ~Connie

This work pictures a beautiful sunset over Jackson Lake and the Grand Tetons located in Wyoming. As I have confessed before, an artist I am... a photographer I'm not. The easel light over the painting during the photographing has washed out the colors in the sky area and the photos just do not render justice to the actual painting. Spring Has Sprung! A Painting a Day by Connie Tom Hudson River School Landscape

Spring has definitely sprung! So many changes in the air, in the colors, the smells and temperature and landscape. It’s good to see “green” again and new life and the activity of gardeners planting fruits, vegetables and flowers. But these natural places are so intriguing with wildflowers springing up everywhere. I loved this scene with the fog and mist in the air, the flowers seemed brighter than usual. I hope you enjoy this painting.

Autumn is my favorite season to paint because of all the vibrant and beautiful colors. And I love the water. I think viewing bodies of water helps to evoke a feeling of refreshment, peace and serenity. John Muir was a man who was so instrumental in getting our National Parks System established because he knew what a treasure scenes of nature is to us. I like what he said: "Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean." This resonates soooo much with how I feel and how I paint. I hope you enjoy this one!

This is a Texas landscape in the autumn with it's beautiful wildflowers and bluebonnets. I kept changing the sky and ground and then decided to add the horses running free. I don't know if it's the season and cold weather, but I've been feeling more than a little confined and the addition of the horses gave me a sense of being set free. Enjoy!

The Buffalo River located in Arkansas plays an important role in commerce, travel and recreation, as well as survival in the history of the state. In his journals, Delacroix said that colors are "the music of the eyes," that they "combine like sounds" that create harmonies rivaling those produced by the great composers with great orchestras. In fact, he says: "Certain color harmonies produce sensations that even music cannot achieve." It is my goal to produce color harmonies that create positive and uplifting sensations.
The setting, the light and colors are all reflective of a wintery scene in time past... when a night out on the town meant a romantic ride in a horse drawn carriage with the one you love. It meant milling around and greeting others out on the street, visiting the little sidewalk shops and outside cafes. It's about evening twilight and the street lights are reflecting in the wet pavement. Even the horse is decked out with bells on his bridle. The carriage has stopped. A gentleman is waiting by the carriage while the lady is talking with a street vendor selling flowers. I painted this work in a little more impressionistic style than is my usual, which the blurriness I think adds to the idea that it's a memory. This painting evokes feelings of true love, peace and joy, wholesomeness, purity, light and feelings of harmony and well-being. I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I enjoyed painting it. ~ Connie

I wanted everything about this painting to savor of two things.... Christmas and romance. From the intense and colorful sunset in the sky to the lighted windows, coziness and warmth in the log cabin. From the Christmas tree in the window and the frosty snowman in the yard to the lovers in the horse drawy buggy. From the smoke coming out of the chimney, you know there’s a roaring fire inside awaiting the couple. With the glistening snow and majestic mountains, I wanted this scene to be full of light and beauty and to evoke feelings of delight, love and peace. ~ Enjoy!

I love waterfalls! This one reminds me of the free flowing love and grace of Almighty God showing something about His character through His Creation. The Bible says that we can know the invisible things of God through the things that are seen. This work pictures a brilliant sunset back in the 80's over Grand Falls, Arizona. The light shining through the fog and mist breaks down into prismatic colors through the mist and fog. ~ Enjoy!

This was a study of another Hudson River School master, Jasper Cropsey, who painted back in the 1800's and who also is a favorite of mine. This was an intense study I did of one of my beloved Hudson River School artists, Albert Bierstadt. I love the mood in this scene. This work pictures a panaramic view of a beautiful sunset over Table Rock Lake located in Branson, MO. I love the contrast between the intense light and shadows and the gorgeous colors of the sunset are also reflected in the water.~ Enjoy!
