"A Time of Reflection" ~ Autumn Landscape  A Painting a Day by Connie Tom

This is a painting of a sunset off the coast in California. In my own reflection upon this painting.... I see that I’m painting more and more sunsets and sunrises and that my favorite colors to paint are these yellows, oranges, reds and raspberries. Sunrises and sunsets signal a change coming in the day. To me it offers hope, beauty, glory and grace. I loved the sky colors reflecting in the water and on the rocks.     ~ Enjoy!

This painting is of a glorious sunburst as seen from the shores in California. With the sunburst colors, the uplifting clouds and the wonderful color combinations of the reflections in the water and shore, this scene just resounded to me like a song of praise to God our Creator, which was the inspiration for the title of this work.

I love sunsets and sunrises because that's the most dramatic lighting of the day usually. And of course, I love the ocean. Who doesn't. It is mezmerizing with it's endless waves and tides rolling in. The sound of the ocean alone seems to stop all thoughts of stress and pressure and seems to soothe even the most worrisome soul. With a lot of moisture in the air, the colors are sometime prismatic. I loved how the colors in the sky are complemented by the cool aqua colors in the ocean waves. ~ Enjoy!

There is something so mezmerizing to sit, watch and listen to the ocean... The endless tide coming in and then going back out. The sound of the crashing of the waves. The thousands of glints of light reflecting off of the ocean's waves. The light of a beautiful sunset filtering through the misty atmosphere creates such a captivating mood and atmosphere, such a beauty... Sooooo romantic..... Enjoy!

"Monterey Cypress" was a fun to do. The ocean holds such an awesome, mezmerizing amazement for me. There's something about large panaramic views of the ocean that reminds me that some of the vast regions of the earth are yet unexplored by man and makes me appreciate the wonder and beauty of this created design... which always brings you back to the Creator. I absolutely love the luminosity of Light! When you think of "light", it's something light and airy, not heavy and burdensome. I think of purity, holiness, and rightousness, cleanliness, godliness, not dark, dreary, tainted, down and dirty, and filthy. Jesus Christ said, "I am the Light of the world". "He who cometh to Me, I will in no wise cast out." "Come unto Me, ye that are heavy laden and I will give you rest unto your souls". I guess that's why I am soooo drawn to the light and thus want to paint it. I am fascinated and mezmerized by it. It cheers me up and makes me joyful. It reminds me of all the things I have to be grateful for. Just as I am, this lone boater seems to be "Captured by the Light". ~ Enjoy!

This is the second in a series of paintings entitled the "Sailboats in the Sunset Series". This work pictures a beautiful sunset that is also reflected in the ocean. There are sailboats along the horizon and breakers are making their way to the shore. Sunsets and sunrises are my favorite time of day to paint because that's when you can see the most dramatic lighting. Enjoy!

I love the look and the feel of the sunset on the ocean. The ocean itself is mezmerizing to me with the fascinating waves endlessly coming in and going back out. But when the sunset is upon it, the play of light is just Wonderful!!! You've got the light filtering through the mist and fog, and zillions of little highlights, causing prismatic colors to be realized. It makes me remember how Great is the God who created it and, as the Bible says, holds all the oceans of the world in the palm of His hand. I myself have never known a love so absolutely Pure and Wonderful and True as the Love of God. ~ Enjoy!

This lovely work pictures an oceanside view of a beautiful sunset. It captures one of those rare moments in time in which an awesome light display from the sunset graces our earth. All of the elements in the painting seem to give homage to the sun. This is a study from one of my favorite Hudson River School masters, Albert Bierstadt. Enjoy!

In painting this work, I was reminded the greatness of God...He is Omnipresent...present everywhere, Omniscient...all knowing, and Omnipotent...all powerful! He is above all... and over all in all these things... or He wouldn't be God. I was reminded also of His wonderful thoughts and of his infinite goodness and mercies toward us, and how He gives us all good things to enjoy, if we will just "put our faith and trust in Him and walk in His ways". His love is perfect toward us! ~ Enjoy!

"Autumn's Glories"
Autumn is such a beautiful, cheerful time of the year. People are settling in for the the winter and making preparations for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. As with the festive colors outside, we tend to want to bring some of that excitement and festive color inside our homes. ~ Enjoy!

"The Pounding Surf Against the Rocky Coast" is another intense study I have done of the revered Hudson River School master Frederic Edwin Church. There is something so fascinating to me about the ocean.... it's massiveness, I guess. Completely out of man's control. Always moving with a thousand little glints of reflected light. Intriguing to me just to sit and watch what it's going to do next with the changing of the tides, the lights, the weather, the time of day. Enjoy!
