"Canyon Ambiance" - 30" x 48" Original Oil Painting by Connie Tom

The sun was setting and the light hitting the canyon walls was amazing! You could still see a little of the blue sky just above the canyon. But the moisture in the air created this wonderful mists rising from the canyon. The whole affect was sheer ambiance. Enjoy!

"Buffalo Among the Geysers" ~ 24"h x 36"w Original Oil Painting by Connie Tom Hudson River School Wildlife Landscape Yellowstone Wyoming
"Buffalo Among the Geysers" 24"h x 36"w Original Oil Painting by Connie Tom
I paint a lot of nature scenes and scenes of the wilderness. This scene pictures the buffalo among the geysers at Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. I was reading an article in the Sunday paper about how fatigue can set in with too many decisions. It was suggested that we take a look at scenes of nature. it said that studies have shown that nature scenes can restore and regenerate attention. John Muir (b.21 April 1838) was a Scottish-born American naturalist and author and advocate of the preservation of wilderness in the United States. He petitioned the U.S. Congress for the National Park bill that was passed in 1890. Because of the spiritual quality and enthusiasm toward nature expressed in his writings, he was able to inspire readers, including presidents and congressmen, to take action to help preserve large nature areas. He is referred to as the "Father of the National Parks" today.
You can see more of my work at www.connietom.com.
"I waited patiently for the Lord: and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord. Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies." ~ Psalm 40:1-4

"Sundown at Mount Hayden" ~ 30"h x 24"w Original Oil Painting by Connie Tom ~ Available for Purchase!
I love beautiful sunsets and sunrises because these are usually the times of the day with the most dramatic lighting. The burgundies and reds were complemented with the green of the trees and shrubbery. The lighting was just beautiful! I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I enjoyed painting it. ~ Connie Tom

"The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall not want: He maketh me to down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. ~ Psalm 23.

"Mountain Bliss" ~ 20"x24" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Mountain Washington Landscapes by Connie Tom
"Mountain Bliss" pictures Mt. Rainier from an elevated view, rising above the morning mist on a beautiful autumn morning. Mountains are such a picture of strength and majesty. In the foreground is nature's typical flora of this mountainous area. This was a study I did of one of my favorites of the Hudson River School Masters, Albert Bierstadt. ~ Enjoy!

"Spruce Trees and Berry Bushes" ~ 24"w x 18"h A Painting a Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom
This painting is available for sale.

This is the season when many people love to take vacations. If you are like me, I love to get away to some place remote where I can find peace and solitude. This work pictures a sunrise through the mist and the fog of blue spruce trees and berry bushes in the rugged country of the Yukon Territory located in Alaska. The sun glints light off of the dew that is still upon the foliage and causes many beautiful prismatic color to be seen through the atmosphere. "Shhh...I Can Hear the Country Calling! II" 4-5-08 Spring Flowers Landscapes by Connie Tom
It's Spring! I've been couped up behind this easel; the wood stove going; the windows shut. When the sun's shining and new life is teeming and sprouting up everywhere in grasses and flowers, I'm soooo ready to get outside in the country, smell the clean fresh air and check my flower beds or out in the field to see what new flowers are coming up voluntarily. It's just like a gift from God!
"I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wonderous works." ~ Psalm 145:1-5

~ Enjoy!

"The Turning of Autumn in Yosemite Valley" ~ 11/29/07 A Painting a Day by Connie Tom
"The Turning of Autumn in Yosemite Valley" is another intense study I did of Hudson River Valley master artist Albert Bierstadt. All of the HRS masters concentrated very much on the light and the effects it has on producing the mood and atmosphere of the work. I too with my art am concerned with... does it produce the "right kind" of mood in the viewer. I take this as a very serious responsibility. Let me know what it produces in you by leaving a comment. I would love to hear from you! ~Connie
