"Silvery Blue" ~ 20"x16" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom

I thought these colorful autumn birches stood out in a pleasing manner to the eye in contrast against background of the silvery blue waters of this mountain lake in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. Enjoy!

"For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth: so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations." ~ Isaiah 61:11.

"Trail to Oregon" ~ 24"x30" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Luminous Landscapes Paintings by Connie Tom

This is another intense study that I did of Hudson River School Master, Albert Bierstadt, who painted back in the 1800's. I love to try to imagine what it must have been like for these pioneers who blazed the trail westward, their hardships and trials and seeing the country as it was back then. Sometimes it's good to return in thought to our grass roots. Otherwise, we'll forget to be thankful for the many blessings and conveniences we had today, although I wonder if they weren't closer in family relationships and core values back then. ~ Enjoy!

"The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all." ~ Psalm 34: 15-19

"Mountain Wildflowers II" ~ A Painting a Day Hudson River School Luminous Mountain Flowers Landscapes by Connie Tom

This was a commission painting I did. I love how the beautiful wildflowers seem to spring up and thrive even in the midst of such rugged mountainous country. Oh, that we could be more like them when times are hard. I love the contrast of the delicacy and size of the flowers to the massiveness of the mountains. It was so much fun to paint. I love all the cheery colors. The dark mountains seem to heighten the vibrancy of the hues in the flowers. ~ Enjoy!

"He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God." ~ Micah 6:8.

"Country Road, Take me Home...." 24" x 30" Hudson River School Daily Painters by Connie Tom

As we all grow up and grow older, our lives get busier and more complicated. More demands are made on us and life can become stressful and uncomfortable. It's times like these, that we think back to a time when we felt at ease.... at peace, happy... and loved just for who we are. Maybe it's a place. Maybe it's a person or a set of circumstances that is home to our souls. That our hearts yearn to be back in. If only in our minds eye, we sometimes need to get back on that country road and let it take us "home". To a simpler way of life. Where there was much joy and laughter. There's a richness of beauty there to behold. The country and western song from which this title was taken goes, “Country Road.... Take Me Home, to a Place I belong....”

This piece is available and will be up for auction on Barry Chappell's Fine Art Showcase on Direct TV, Channel 223. You can view also online at www.fashowcase.com. Contact me for the date and time of the auction.

"A Walk Through the Canyon" ~ 30"x24" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Canyon Autumn Landscapes by Connie Tom

"A Walk Through The Canyon" was a delight to do. With all the delicious colors, harmonizing the cool colors with the warm colors, I think I understand what Delacroix was talking about when he wrote in his journal, that "Colors are the music of the eyes." I try to thank God nearly every day for the wonderful colors He gave us in His creation. When I see these... I think, "Look what God has done!" ~ Enjoy!

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." ~ Psalms 1:1-3.

"Mountain Bliss" ~ 20"x24" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Mountain Washington Landscapes by Connie Tom

"Mountain Bliss" pictures Mt. Rainier from an elevated view, rising above the morning mist on a beautiful autumn morning. Mountains are such a picture of strength and majesty. In the foreground is nature's typical flora of this mountainous area. This was a study I did of one of my favorites of the Hudson River School Masters, Albert Bierstadt. ~ Enjoy!

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" ~ Psalm 27:1.

"Creek Retreat IX" ~ 20" x 16" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom

"Creek Retreat IX" ~ This work pictures a small country creek meandering it's way over ledges creating beautiful peaceful waterfalls through the countryside. Autumn has began to color the trees. This would be a perfect, intimate place to go to with someone you love, and bring a picnic lunch and a blanket to sit on and enjoy nature's awesome beauty. Enjoy!

"Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore Love is the fulling of the law. ~ Romans 12:9-10, 13:10
And now abideth faith, hope and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." ~ I Corinthinians 13:13.

"Lantern's of Gold III" ~ 30"w x 24"h Hudson River School A Painting a Day Autumn Tree Landscapes by Connie Tom

I've been trying to keep within the season in my posting, especially before Thanksgiving. So here's another one with autumn colors. To me they speak of harvest and bountifulness, of the Pilgrims, of Indian corn and the first Thanksgiving. ~ Enjoy!

"But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." ~ Matthew 23:11-12.

"Autumn Symphony" ~ 20" x 30" Hudson River School A Painting a Day Landscapes by Connie Tom

My hope and prayer in painting this 'Autumn Symphony' series of paintings is to give to the viewer a view of nature's beauty that they might not see everyday. Autumn is without question my favorite season to paint because of the myriads of bright, bold, and beautiful colors. Happy colors... Festive colors. I hope my paintings will be like windows on the walls of their homes, which will surround them with this symphony of joyous color with all it's beauty, complexity, diversity and richness of nature's autumn in this great country of ours. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed painting it! ~Connie

"For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." ~ Isaiah 55:10-11.

"Fishing in the Moment" 24" x 36" Hudson River School Daily Painters by Connie Tom

These two lucky fishermen have escaped the busy-ness of life, not only to fish if they please, but to experience the elements of life and nature. They are out on the lake during a beautiful sunset. I wanted to catch this moment in time when the clouds start rolling in and the light from the sunset filters through the atmosphere in the heavens above creating a myriad of cloud colors and quite a light show. When the clouds start moving in fast, you don't know what's going to happen. There's a feeling of vulnerability and also an element of anticipation. In awe of this breathtaking beauty, these fishermen are happily... "enjoying the moment." ~ Connie

"Woodland Stream Waterfall" ~ 20" x 24" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom

There is something so peaceful to watch... and listen to the gurgling waters of a lively stream flowing through the woodland area, especially when there is a small waterfalls on it's course. It's extra special when the beautifully colored autumn foliage grace the trees. I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I enjoyed painting it! ~ Connie

"The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward." ` Psalm 19:9-11.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye hsall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD; and I will turn away your captivity...." ~ Jeremiah 29:11-14.

This was another intense study I did of Hudson River School master, Frederic Edwin Church's original. It is painted on a 24" x 36" gallery wrapped canvas. He, Albert Bierstadt, and Jasper Cropsey are my favorites of this first major art movement in America known as the Hudson River School, because of their dramatic lighting, mood and atmosphere. ~ Enjoy!

"Reflections of Spring III" ~ Up for bid! A Painting a Day Hudson River School Spring Sunsets Sunrises Water Landscapes by Connie Tom

I have done so many festive autumn scenes, so being this time of year, I wanted to "reflect upon Spring" if you will. There's something exciting.... anticipated about the coming of Spring after a long, cold winter. To see all the changes taking place, color changes, new life springing forth, the sun's rays bringing forth beautiful flowers and foliage and leaves on the trees, plus the warmer climate makes us want to get out of doors and enjoy the newness of nature and the wonderful fresh air. ~ Enjoy!

This painting and others of Connie Tom's is available and up for bid on Barry Chappell's Fine Art Showcase shown every Thursday and Saturday night, on Direct TV, Channel 223 starting at 5 PM PST. You can also watch the show online at FINE ART SHOWCASE.
"A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle. A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." ~ Proverbs 18:19-21.

"River Crossing" ~ 16"x20" ~ A Painting A Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom

This was another intense study I did of another Hudson River School master, J.W. Embury. This is a 16" x 20" oil painting on stretched canvas. I put much detailed brushwork in the grasses and foliage in the foreground and road, while leaving everything in the middle and background very foggy. Enjoy! ~Connie

"But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed." ~ Romans 10:8-11.

"Shhh...I Can Hear the Country Calling" ~ A Painting a Day Hudson River School Sunset Landscapes by Connie Tom

This scene makes me think of the awakening of a brand new day. The country holds a very special place for me. I grew up in the country. I love the fresh country air, the simplicity and goodness of the land, the solitude and the wide open spaces. The flock of geese overhead represents a sense of freedom and ability to be and do what we are supposed to do and be. After all... God wouldn't have given birds the desire to fly south if He wasn't going to also give them the ability to do so. Enjoy!
