"Sierra Nevadas" ~ 24"x30" A Painting a Day Hudson River School California Landscapes Paintings by Connie Tom

This was another intense study that I did of one of the Hudson River School masters, Albert Bierstadt that painted back in the 1800's. He, Frederick E. Church, and Jasper Cropsey are my favorites had the most dramatic lighting, mood and atmosphere. I am very thankful for what I have learned from having done many of these studies. I now incorporate the techniques in my more contemporary paintings. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed painting it! ~ Connie

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth." ~ Psalms 121:1-2

This is another intense study of one of Hudson River School master Albert Bierstadt that I did. He and Frederick E. Church were two of my favorites. They were masters at trying to capture the sublime. Enjoy!

"Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works." ~ Psalms 145:3-5

"Paean of Praise!" ~ 24" x 20" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Luminous Inspiration Sunset Landscapes Paintings by Connie Tom

This lovely work pictures an oceanside view of a beautiful sunset. It captures one of those rare moments in time in which an awesome light display from the sunset graces our earth. All of the elements in the painting seem to give homage to the sun. This is a study from one of my favorite Hudson River School masters, Albert Bierstadt. Enjoy!

"Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God." ~ Psalm 50:23.

"Trail to Oregon" ~ 24"x30" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Luminous Landscapes Paintings by Connie Tom

This is another intense study that I did of Hudson River School Master, Albert Bierstadt, who painted back in the 1800's. I love to try to imagine what it must have been like for these pioneers who blazed the trail westward, their hardships and trials and seeing the country as it was back then. Sometimes it's good to return in thought to our grass roots. Otherwise, we'll forget to be thankful for the many blessings and conveniences we had today, although I wonder if they weren't closer in family relationships and core values back then. ~ Enjoy!

"The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all." ~ Psalm 34: 15-19

"Mountain Bliss" ~ 20"x24" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Mountain Washington Landscapes by Connie Tom

"Mountain Bliss" pictures Mt. Rainier from an elevated view, rising above the morning mist on a beautiful autumn morning. Mountains are such a picture of strength and majesty. In the foreground is nature's typical flora of this mountainous area. This was a study I did of one of my favorites of the Hudson River School Masters, Albert Bierstadt. ~ Enjoy!

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" ~ Psalm 27:1.

I love sunrises and sunsets, because of the beautiful lighting that enhances the landscape with such drama. Enjoy!

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil." ~ Ecclesiastes 12:13-14.

"Wilderness Twilight" ~ 30"w x 24"h A Painting a Day Daily Luminous Landscape Paintings by Connie Tom

There is something so wonderful about the wilderness. I love the solitude and nature in the wild. Especially when there is a dramatic sunset or sunrise lighting that's also reflected in the water. And red is such a cheerful and exciting color. This one was like a fireworks explosion on the fourth of July. ~ Enjoy!

"Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God." ~ Psalm 50:23.

"The Turning of Autumn in Yosemite Valley" ~ 11/29/07 A Painting a Day by Connie Tom

"The Turning of Autumn in Yosemite Valley" is another intense study I did of Hudson River Valley master artist Albert Bierstadt. All of the HRS masters concentrated very much on the light and the effects it has on producing the mood and atmosphere of the work. I too with my art am concerned with... does it produce the "right kind" of mood in the viewer. I take this as a very serious responsibility. Let me know what it produces in you by leaving a comment. I would love to hear from you! ~Connie
