"Texas Horses and Bluebonnets" 24" x 36" Connie Tom Hudson River School Landscape
This is a Texas landscape in the autumn with it's beautiful wildflowers and bluebonnets. I kept changing the sky and ground and then decided to add the horses running free. I don't know if it's the season and cold weather, but I've been feeling more than a little confined and the addition of the horses gave me a sense of being set free. Enjoy!

"Along the Buffalo River" ~ 28" x 22" A Painting A Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom
The Buffalo River located in Arkansas plays an important role in commerce, travel and recreation, as well as survival in the history of the state. I liked the contrast of the colorful autumn trees up against the rugged blue bluffs along the river. I always love reflections in water. I hope you enjoy this painting!

"A Romantic Memory" ~ 7" x 5" A Painting A Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom
In his journals, Delacroix said that colors are "the music of the eyes," that they "combine like sounds" that create harmonies rivaling those produced by the great composers with great orchestras. In fact, he says: "Certain color harmonies produce sensations that even music cannot achieve." It is my goal to produce color harmonies that create positive and uplifting sensations.
The setting, the light and colors are all reflective of a wintery scene in time past... when a night out on the town meant a romantic ride in a horse drawn carriage with the one you love. It meant milling around and greeting others out on the street, visiting the little sidewalk shops and outside cafes. It's about evening twilight and the street lights are reflecting in the wet pavement. Even the horse is decked out with bells on his bridle. The carriage has stopped. A gentleman is waiting by the carriage while the lady is talking with a street vendor selling flowers. I painted this work in a little more impressionistic style than is my usual, which the blurriness I think adds to the idea that it's a memory. This painting evokes feelings of true love, peace and joy, wholesomeness, purity, light and feelings of harmony and well-being. I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I enjoyed painting it. ~ Connie

"An Old Fashion Christmas Buggy Ride" ~ 36"x48" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Luminous Landscapes Oil Paintings by Connie Tom" ~ 36"x48" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Luminous Landscapes Oil Paintings by Connie Tom
I wanted everything about this painting to savor of two things.... Christmas and romance. From the intense and colorful sunset in the sky to the lighted windows, coziness and warmth in the log cabin. From the Christmas tree in the window and the frosty snowman in the yard to the lovers in the horse drawy buggy. From the smoke coming out of the chimney, you know there’s a roaring fire inside awaiting the couple. With the glistening snow and majestic mountains, I wanted this scene to be full of light and beauty and to evoke feelings of delight, love and peace. ~ Enjoy!
"Be careful for nothing: but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." ~ Philippians 4:6-8.

"Sunset at Grand Falls" ~ 34"x22" Hudson River School A Painting a Day Arizona Sunset Landscapes by Connie Tom
I love waterfalls! This one reminds me of the free flowing love and grace of Almighty God showing something about His character through His Creation. The Bible says that we can know the invisible things of God through the things that are seen. This work pictures a brilliant sunset back in the 80's over Grand Falls, Arizona. The light shining through the fog and mist breaks down into prismatic colors through the mist and fog. ~ Enjoy!
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." ~ Matthew 7:7-8.

"Twilight" ~ 24" x 30" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Landscapes by Connie Tom
This was a study of another Hudson River School master, Jasper Cropsey, who painted back in the 1800's and who also is a favorite of mine. He had such a gift of creating mood and atmosphere and painted many panaramic scenes such as this one. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed painting it! ~ Connie

"Sunset Over Table Rock Lake, Branson, MO" ~ A Painting a Day Hudson River School Mountain Autumn Tree Landscape Paintings by Connie Tom

This was an intense study I did of one of my beloved Hudson River School artists, Albert Bierstadt. I love the mood in this scene. This work pictures a panaramic view of a beautiful sunset over Table Rock Lake located in Branson, MO. I love the contrast between the intense light and shadows and the gorgeous colors of the sunset are also reflected in the water.~ Enjoy!

Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.
Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created."

This is another intense study of one of the Hudson River School Master artists, Frederick Edwin Church. He and Albert Bierstadt are my two favorites. I love their lighting effects. This work pictures a panaramic view of a lake in the Adirondacks Mountains located in upstate New York. This boater is out for a wonderful time taking in the spectacular beauty of God's creation. "Sierra Nevadas" ~ 24"x30" A Painting a Day Hudson River School California Landscapes Paintings by Connie Tom

This was another intense study that I did of one of the Hudson River School masters, Albert Bierstadt that painted back in the 1800's. He, Frederick E. Church, and Jasper Cropsey are my favorites had the most dramatic lighting, mood and atmosphere. I am very thankful for what I have learned from having done many of these studies. I now incorporate the techniques in my more contemporary paintings. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed painting it! ~ Connie

"Autumn's Hidden Sanctuary II" ~ 40"x30" Hudson River School A Painting a Day Autumn Landscapes by Connie Tom

I love the autumn woods with all it's brilliant, bright and beautiful colors. I love the colors of autumn, because it seems to have the colors of the other three seasons as well as the many colors unique to it's own season. ~ Enjoy!
"Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in anywise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth." ~ Psalm 37:7-9.
"The wicked plotteth against the just; and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The LORD shall laugh at him: for He seeth that his day is coming. The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation. Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken." ~ Psalm 37:12-15.

"Reflections of Autumn II" ~ 20" x 16" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Landscape Paintings by Connie Tom

"Reflections of Autumn II" is an oil painting I did being inspired from the wonderful work of Elliot Porter. It pictures brilliant autumn colors reflected from the trees into a lively stream of water. I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I enjoyed painting it.
"Offer unto God thanksgiving and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me."
"Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God." ~ Psalm 50:14-15,23.

"Pathway of Life" ~ 16" x 20" Hudson River School Landscapes A Painting a Day by Connie Tom

This painting reminded me of the pathway of life we all walk on spiritually with all it's ups and downs, bumps and rocks, veering to the left or right, the end out of sight...fencing on both sides.... Like this is the path we're supposed to be on. Just keep on walking. So what if you don't see the end. Look for and enjoy the beauty all along the way and keep following the Light!
"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the Light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." ~ John 8:12.

"Branson Hills Autumn" ~ 12"x9" A Painting a Day Hudson River School Mountain Landscapes by Connie Tom

This is an original oil painting by Missouri artist Connie Tom picturing the beginning of autumn in the hills of Branson. The sun is shining through the trees. It's after a shower and the colors seem to come alive. The road entering at the bottom of the picture seems to invite the viewer into the picture. It would be nice to take a walk through the Ozark Hills and enjoy the sun shining on you, listening to all the little woodland animals and birds in the trees and enjoy the brilliant colors of autumn. With all the detail and beautiful colors it has a very cheerful feel to it.
~ Enjoy!
"For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." ~ Isaiah 55:10-11.

"Moonlight on the River" 16"h x 20"w ~ Up for Bid! Hudson River School A Painting a Day Landscapes by Connie Tom

I really enjoyed painting this one, trying ever so hard to get that luminescence of light in the sky. It was achieved layer upon layer of paint. I wanted it to be a fairly simple in composition, mostly just nature, so as to evoke a feeling of peace and tranquility and I think the cool green and blue colors are soothing also. There is something comforting about listening to the soft rippling of the running water of a river. Many times in the Bible, the word "river" is associated with peace and abundance. ~ Enjoy!

"Hidden Falls" 30"h x 24"w ~ Up for Bid! Hudson River School A Painting a Day Landscapes by Connie Tom

Located in Montana, Hidden Falls is a picture of such hidden beauty that can be found in rocky places. Like the joy we can experience when all is well in our own souls. Overflowing and abundant joy that maybe we think that only we know about, but which is perceived also by others as something different. Something that is very good.
I tried to put lots little subtle color changes such as many hues of blues, aquas, burgundys in the shaded areas of the water and yellow and orange tints in the highlighted areas of the water to add interest, beauty, variety and abundance. ` Enjoy!

"Creek Retreat XIV" 20"h x 24"w ~ Up for Bid! Hudson River School A Painting a Day Landscapes by Connie Tom

Autumn to me is one of the most special times of the year. A time full of activity and energy with all the brightly colored leaves floating through the air. Changes in the foliage and landscape are happening all around us.
High in the Rocky Mountains area, this little creek meanders it’s way quietly through the trees. The festive leaves seem to be setting the stage for the holidays seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas with such radiant colors of Harvest. As we view the flurry of leaves, they seem to be saying, Get ready... Winter is coming! The holidays are just around the corner. Better get done what you need to get done to be ready for joyous times of warm hospitality, family gatherings, love, laughter and lots of good food and fond remembrances of all we have to be thankful for. Truly a time of Harvesting all that “Good” is.
The tall stately tree trunks remind me that as they stand straight and tall and continue to grow through many seasons, they are a picture of faith that we human beings can be content and stand straight and tall with the same strength, stability and dignity through all the seasons of our own lives.

"Sacramento Mountain Sunset" 24"h x 30"w ~ Up for Bid! Hudson River School A Painting a Day Landscapes by Connie Tom

I wanted to paint a very dramatic sky and light in this painting. This is a place in the Sacramento Mountain Range located in the South Central State of New Mexico, where many of the old western movies were filmed. This was a place where passions and emotions ran high, but without which is a very serene setting. ~ Enjoy!

"Peaceful Waterfall" 36"h x 24"w ~ Up for Bid! Hudson River School A Painting a Day Landscapes by Connie Tom

I love to take what might be an ordinarily simple scene that’s so clean, and fresh and pure and that exonerates all it’s little nuances of beauty and light. The Swedish painter Anders Zorn said basically that great music is great because of simple melodies augmented by layers of complexity. This simple scene is enhanced by a beautiful sunset and the striking play of autumn light. As the deep rich colors of the sky and landscape seem to pay homage to the focus of the painting, the peaceful waterfall, there becomes something almost spiritual about it. ~ Enjoy!
